About Visiting Angels

The Visiting Angels office was founded in 1998 in Havertown, Philadelphia, USA. There are now over 600 franchisees operating in the USA, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and the UK. The brand supports over 15,000 clients and provides work to almost 16,000 caregivers worldwide. In 2017, the Visiting Angels brand came to the UK to change the face and nature of the care sector. The brand is certainly growing. Are you going to join them on their journey forward?

What They Offer

Visiting Angels provides care for the elderly, the ill, the disabled and the vulnerable. They do this through their customer-centric approach, which means that the company takes time to understand their clients’ health and care needs including their interests, hobbies, personalities and backgrounds. Next, a shortlist of suitably matched carers with complementary personalities, skills and interests is provided for the client to choose from. Two to three caregivers are then selected and the client commits to these same carers for the duration of the contract.

The Franchise Offering

The length of a typical Visiting Angels franchise agreement is five years with the option to renew for another five years if both parties agree to do so. Although the setting up of the business can take time and will be dependent on every individual case, on average, it takes around five months from signing your franchise agreement to taking your first client.

The Visiting Angels franchisor will help you with the entire process by assisting you with securing your CQC (Care Quality Commission) registration, finalising your business plan and securing bank funding, if necessary. Other help you can expect to receive includes locating suitable premises and recruiting your Registered Care Manager.

Perhaps what sets this franchisor apart from others is the fact that it’s carer-centric and the model isn’t based on building a network of hundreds of franchisees. Rather, they believe in quality over quantity.

As a franchisee, you’ll work within a large enough territory to sustain substantial business growth.

Who Are They Looking For?

To become a Visiting Angels franchisee, you certainly don’t need a background in health or social care. Prior business experience is also not required. However, skills and personal characteristics that will set you apart include wanting to help change the care industry for good. This will be done through your interest in owning your business that does things differently, wanting to build a loyal team of caregivers, believing that happy care workers will deliver the best support and service to clients – all this while being able to reap the rewards and enjoying the profits of your labour.

The Cost

According to the Visiting Angels franchisor, the first five franchisees to join their UK network will be considered the “Founding Franchisees”, who will bring the vision of the brand to life. As a result, the fee for Founding Franchisees is £9,995 plus VAT. The remaining franchisees will pay an initial investment of £24,995 plus VAT. Furthermore, liquid capital of around £30,000 will be required and you should expect to require working capital of £50,000 to £60,000. This will depend on your location. The Management Service Fee is 4.5% of turnover with an additional 1.5% contribution for the National Marketing Fund.

Funding

Typically, up to 70% of bank funding is available for your capital requirements depending on the lender you approach.

Training and Support

As a new franchisee, you will undergo initial training, where you will learn from industry experts. This training is one-week long and takes place at the global headquarters in Philadelphia. This is where you’ll meet the international franchise support team for four days of classroom-style training. Once back in the UK, you’ll go straight into week two of training at the UK head office. This intensive training course covers:

  • “Recruitment and retention of caregivers
  • Sales, marketing and networking
  • Handling enquiries and overcoming objections
  • UK care operations: legislation and CQC
  • Systems and procedures for: Client Assessments, Care Plan production and Review
  • Staff and care visit scheduling, and
  • Accounts and payroll”.

However, training doesn’t stop there. You’ll also receive regular, ongoing training for the duration of your franchise. This will take place through a combination of e-learning, live webinars, group and one-to-one sessions. Other support you’ll get include the pre-launch support, the 12-week jump-start programme, and a business support programme.

As for marketing, you will get help in designing an integrated marketing plan that includes your own regularly updated website, print advertising, PPC and social media advertising, PR, leaflet drops, training and events, networking with key healthcare and community contacts and more.
