Puddle Ducks employs highly trained and qualified teachers who are experts at identifying children’s levels of ability and adapting activities to the individual, nurturing confidence and encouraging natural ability.

Lessons are taught in specially selected pools with limited class sizes. Classes incorporate rhyme and their bespoke songs have been written by professional musicians. In addition, attention is paid to movement based on extensive child development research. Puddle Ducks teachers undergo 300 hours of training both in and out of the water, to ensure they reach the highest standards.

The Puddle Ducks network has two franchisee-owned pools while pool-builds are currently underway, Meanwhile, some franchisees are moving into investing and managing pools on behalf of pool owners and securing exclusive use.

Here, you can choose from single or multi-territory options. Once you have made this decision, your responsibilities as a franchise owner will mainly be centred around:

  • Sourcing pools (and in time even building or managing your own pool)
  • Recruiting and managing a team of teachers

  • Recruiting and managing a customer care and marketing team
  • Business planning and financial management

As mentioned above, most Puddle Ducks franchisees start off teaching in the water to fully immerse themselves in the product and understand their customers. Ultimately, however, the aim is for you to manage a team of teachers, taking ownership of your own territory.

The Cost

For a virgin territory franchise option, the franchise fee is £24,000 + VAT. This includes the licence to operate exclusively in your territory for five years with the option to renew. Renewal also comes at no extra charge. You will also need a minimum personal investment in the region of £5,000 + VAT. It’s also advisable that you have enough financial resources to sustain you for the first 12 to 24 months so that you aren’t drawing on the business.

Resale opportunities are unique and you will need to enquire with the franchisor for more details. By following the business model correctly and putting in the required work, you should expect net profits in the region of 19%. However, this will depend on the individual business mix, gross margins and overheads.


Puddle Ducks is an approved franchisor with HSBC, Lloyds and Natwest. Each of these lenders has franchise departments that understand the landscape and are ready to lend as long as you have the minimum personal investment as stipulated by the particular bank.

With Puddle Ducks, you’ll get close mentorship with outstanding head office support and back-office systems to ensure your business runs smoothly. The head office team of specialists covers business support, IT support, marketing, retail, pool management, technical and finance. They also fund an insurance-backed HR service providing commercial advice for the entire network and work closely with the accounting partners. You will also be able to take advantage of bespoke technology and management software. 

Channels of communication include weekly franchisee newsletters, monthly whole network newsletters, Facebook forums for franchisees, marketing and admin, a Shark Focus Group and Marketing Council. Annually, there is the franchisee conference and Summer School. But there are also franchisee regional meetings, regional marketing meetings, regional technical meetings, business health checks and technical visits. The peer-to-peer support in the network is also highly valued.
