The members of Little Learners were filled with excitement as they embarked on a trip to London to conduct a captivating messy play and mark making session. Their destination was the Great Ormond Street Hospital, where they had the pleasure of engaging with the delightful children currently under its care.
Taking charge of the session were Rachel, the Head Franchisor of Little Learners, and Aisha from Little Learners North West Kent. This endeavor was seamlessly integrated into GOSH’s broader support and play service, dedicated to uplifting the spirits of the young patients and bringing moments of joy to their day.
The activities offered during the session encompassed a variety of engaging experiences:
– The setup included Tuff Trays adorned with an assortment of wet and dry components. Among these, the ever-popular Crazy Soap, gloop, and even taste-safe biscuit sand were present to stimulate the children’s senses.
– Drawing inspiration from ‘The Mark Makers’ Programme, exercises were designed to enhance core muscle strength and prepare the children for their initial ventures into early writing.
– Abundant materials for scribbling, drawing, and mark making were provided, allowing the children to explore and relish in their creative endeavors.
– Sorting and building tasks were incorporated to foster the development of both fine and gross motor skills.
The invaluable opportunity to engage with Great Ormond Street Hospital was made possible through the partnership with the remarkable charity organization, Spread a Smile. Their mission revolves around infusing joy and laughter into the lives of seriously ill and hospitalized children and their families, especially during prolonged hospital stays. Through hospital visits, outings, events, and artistic initiatives, Spread a Smile consistently brings smiles to thousands of young lives and aims to make a tangible positive impact during times of immense challenge.
Reflecting on the experience, Rachel, the franchisor, expressed deep gratitude, stating, “We feel incredibly honored to have been part of the sessions for the children at Great Ormond Street. Witnessing the progress and growth of these children as they engaged with diverse materials, learned through play, and truly left their mark was nothing short of amazing.”
The Little Learners team extended their heartfelt appreciation to GOSH, Spread a Smile, and gave special recognition to Aisha from Little Learners North West Kent for her role in delivering the impactful session.
